Social historians agree that the Hellenistic period is when art, literature and philosophy started to examine the individual far more than before.- It’s hard to us to imagine, but in Classical greece, people didn’t think of themselves as individuals as we do today. They were the city-state. This change in attitude paved the way for the ultimate form of individualism – Christianity, the religion of individual salvation.
