Life Of Alexander The Great #42 – The Rock Of Aornus

Alexander marches into India. He engages with several Indian tribes, including the Nyassans, who claimed to be the descendants of the people who traveled to Greece with Dionysus, and the Assaceni, who tried the old “we’re hiding in a fort and you can’t get us” trick. This provides him with a chance to do something even his famous ancestor Heracles failed to accomplish – to take The Rock of Aornus.

Life Of Alexander The Great #41 – Conspiracy Of The Pages

It was common practice for Macedonian nobles to send their eldest teenage sons to serve as royal pages to the king. They get a close-up experience of kingly life and the king gets hostages to keep his nobles loyal. Unfortunately, one of Alexander’s pages gets himself in trouble and it leads to yet another assassination plot against the king.

Life Of Alexander The Great #40 – Bow Down Before The King!

Alexander tries to get not only his Persian subjects, but also his Macedonians and Greeks, to bow down before him – proskynesis, as it was called, or genuflection.

But did he do it just because he was deranged? Or were there good, practical reasons for it?

Callisthenes, the official court historian, took issue with it – and, in doing so, signed his own death warrant.

Then he performs another incredible feat of engineering to terrify Sisimithres who lived in a rock fortress called the Rock of Chorienes and was literally a motherfucker.
